Dirty dishes

No need to pre-rinse your dishes

A lot of people rinse their dishes before loading the dishwasher. If your machine is in good working order, this step is useless: your dishes will not come out any cleaner.

So skip the rinse and load your dishes straight into the dishwasher.

Skipping the pre-rinse saves about 15 gallons of water per load on average. It also saves the energy used to pump that water to your home, and the energy to heat it if you rinse with warm water. You save time, effort and money too, and your glasses may even last longer.

All you need to do is scrape off bones and leftover food before loading. To save even more water, only run the dishwasher when it is full.
